Motor Vehicle Safety Act for Whistleblowers
Those who report safety violations under the Motor Vehicle Safety Act may receive a reward for blowing the whistle.
In 2015, Congress passed the Motor Vehicle Safety Whistleblower Act to incentivize whistleblower employees to report safety violations that could lead to serious injury or death to drivers and passengers of motor vehicles.
Whistleblowers who report safety violations that result in monetary sanctions by the Department of Transportation in excess of $1 million can recover 10-30% of the amount recovered as a reward.
Recognizing the significant risks taken by insider employees who step forward to report safety violations, the Act provides for anonymous reporting and protection from retaliation.
